Valentine's Day

I have been making tiramisu this morning. We are forgoing our much loved, chocolate mousse on Valentine's Day this year, at Miss Moo Moo's request.

About two weeks ago, she told me that she couldn't stop thinking about 'that' dessert. "You know the one Mum, the one that Nanny Marjie makes, the one you made for Christmas when I was four, the one with the cream and chocolate sprinkles"

Of course I knew. I suggested that we make it for Valentine's Day.

If only she had been home to help, my best little kitchen helper. I used this recipe, a recipe that suggests I beat my egg yolks and sugar for 15 minutes. That's fine if you have a mixmaster, but I am still using my $20.00 hand-held, egg beaters purchased over 20 years ago, when I left home. So, with my little beater girl at school today, I got through it like this: I turned up this Dean Martin CD a little louder than normal, loud enough to hear over the egg beaters and loud enough to make the neighbours think I'm little weird. Add a strong espresso to drink as I stood at the bench and beated, and the 15 minutes seemed to fly by.

While my eggs and sugar were whipped to the perfect shade of pale white, I was dreaming about this mixer and this coffee machine. The perfect his and hers Valentine's day present's I'd say... perhaps next year!

Happy LOVE day!

A whole lot of lovin'

This Valentine's Day, I had grand plans. I had intended to bake a heart shaped cake for home and heart shaped biscuits to share at school. I had a long list of valentine crafts to make with the kids. But with a few on going projects taking up my time this week and a head cold that just won't seem to go away, we did what we could.

We made a painted heart garland to decorate the family room.

We ate dinner by candlelight. The valentine tea lights were made on the weekend.

I made these love heart decorations to hang on our celebration tree. Please note, that the fabric was not chosen by me.

Blue sequins, how did you get into my fabric stash?

After dinner I settled down to watch "Sleepless in Seattle". This is my ultimate Valentine's Day movie, for mushy, sentimental reasons, I'm sure you don't want to hear about here.

Mr Moo came home from work at 9:30pm and found me asleep on the couch. Very romantic indeed.

I know Valentines Day is really for young lovers. But for us old lovers of love (over thirty-five) I think you realise what real love is, you understand that it comes in so many different forms and you realise just how powerful it can be.

I'll leave you with some Baci chocolate wisdom.

True love

There wasn’t a lot of romance in our Valentine’s Day, but there was still a lot of love. We had a lovely lazy day spent with family and friends. A relaxing brunch at our favourite café and a fun afternoon at the beach.

When it was time to leave the beach, I told Miss Moo Moo we were going home for sausages and candles, because it was Valentines Day. She looked at me and said:

“Mum every day is Valentine’s Day when you are with people that you love.”

There you have it. LOVE, in it’s purest form.
