Happy Chinese New Year

Before our children were born we always celebrated Chinese New Year. I say 'celebrate', but what I mean (since we are not Chinese) is that we went out and enjoyed the festivities and ate lots of delicious Chinese food.

The area where we now live, is not as multi-cultural as I would like, but tonight I wanted to revisit this tradition. So we all went out to a local Chinese restaurant for dinner.

There was no lion dance, cymbals, drums or firecrackers, but we had a really yummy dinner. Prawn crackers, chicken and almonds, flaming peking pork spare ribs and special fried rice. The kids loved it.

And do you remember this from your childhood? Deep-fried ice-cream.

  1. Happy Chinese New Year too! Thanks for reminding me to wish my son in Taiwan, and his girl Amy the same. They don't have time off for Christmas but this is a big deal over there...so they will be celebrating it now!

  2. Kung Hei Fat Choy ! or something like that - we celebrated Chinese New Year in Brisbane with family - brother in law cooked up a storm - will post photos of the food when I get a chance. Haven't checked your blog for more than 10 days - that's a first, full time work just gets in the way of a girls fun. Glad to see you're still at it ....
